Rock demons
Rock demons, also called Demons of the Deep by the Guardians of Night, were predatory creatures that lived in the deepest canyon in Screetown in the Second Age of Flight[1], although they sometimes emerged from the canyon to hunt[2]. Rock demons had claws and leathery wings[3]. They bodies were huge and black[1], and their eyes glowed[3]. Rock demons could cling onto ceilings upside down[3].
Role in the Edge Chronicles
In the Rook Trilogy
In Vox, Rook Barkwater accidentally disturbed the rock demons by rolling a boulder off his chest into their ravine after crashing in Screetown. They climbed up to hunt him, but he escaped by hiding in a small crevice and masking his scent with dust.[2]
Also, at that time, the Guardians of Night fed captured librarians to the rock demons in Purification Ceremonies[1], and they dug a tunnel between the rock demons’ home canyon and the sewers of Undertown[4]. The rock demons went through that tunnel in pursuit of Magda Burlix and Xanth Filatine, and emerged in the Great Storm Chamber Library in the middle of the Battle of the Blackwood Bridge[3]. They then devoured the remaining forces of both the goblins and the shrykes[3].
