Kobold the Wise
Kobold the Wise was a legendary ruler who unified the scattered peoples of the Deepwoods under a confederation known as the Thousand Tribes. His wise leadership led to an era of equanimity and erudition later known as the Time of Enlightenment. However, the arrival of the Mother Storm brought an end to this period, setting the Deepwoods back to a fragmented and primitive state. Cowlquape idolized Kobold the Wise, and he gained many intuitions from reading about him and his ancient teachings and beliefs in The Myth of Riverrise. Kobold's Mount, a district of the City of Riverrise, was named after him.
Trivia
- A kobold is a sprite stemming from Germanic mythology[1]. Kobold is also the German word for goblin, pixie or gremlin. This is very fitting because Kobold the Wise united many tribes, among them many goblin varieties.
- Kobold the Wise's symbol is very similar to the Rod of Asclepius[2], a symbol associated with medicine and health care that is very similar to but should not be confused with the Caduceus[3], a staff carried by Hermes in Greek Mythology and the symbol of commerce. In Greek mythology, the tricorn is the symbol of Poseidon[4]. Together, this could symbolise the healing power of the Riverrise water.
