Copperwood Gang

The Copperwood Gang, creeping through Mangobey Cartshank Square

The Copperwood Gang was the name assigned to Nate Quarter and his group of allies when they were on the run. Framed for murdering Friston Drew, owner of the Glemlop and Drew phraxchamber works stiltshop, the Copperwood Gang fled from the Great Glade Constabulary to the city of Hive.

Members of the Copperwood Gang

The gang consisted of Nate, Slip, Ambris Hentadile, and Weelum. The authorities believed Eudoxia Prade, "rich heiress from New Lake", to be their kidnapping victim, held at ransom. However, this was far from the truth.[1]

In the search for Ambris and his 'accomplices', the police forces of Great Glade searched the Copperwood cabins, the phraxchamber works, and eventually the allotments. They posted wanted posters with the fugitives' descriptions on roost poles and tether posts throughout the entire city, and they strengthened their screening procedures at the Ledges phraxship docks. The Old Forest Militia combed through the outer districts alongside the personal guards of New Lake aristocrats -- factory and mine owners chiefly.[1]

The Escape

On their way to seek out the help and piloting skills of retired sky pirate, Squall Razortooth, in the Northern Outer City district, the Copperwood Gang snuck past the Statue of Mangobey Cartshank. A wanted poster was tied around the statue's base, which mentioned the names of the alleged gang members and offered a thousand-glader reward for any information concerning their whereabouts.[2]

Clothing

During their stealthy voyage through Great Glade, Nate was disguised as a "portly old fourthling farmer" with white hair and a gladegrass hat, Slip a cloaked oakelf, Eudoxia a wagoner with a moustache made from Weelum's fur, Ambris a wealthy goblin matron, and Weelum a cloddertrog attendant in heavy rain gear.[2]
