Introduction

Use this guide to replace the battery in your OnePlus 9 5G.

For your safety, discharge the battery below 25% before disassembling your phone. This reduces the risk of fire if the battery is accidentally damaged during the repair. If your battery is swollen, take appropriate precautions.

It isn't mandatory to remove the daughterboard cover and the interconnect cable in order to replace the battery. However, doing so reduces the risk of damaging surrounding components. If you're experienced in repairs and decide not to do so, deal with the interconnect cable like with the charging port cable in step 25 of this guide.

You'll need replacement adhesive for the battery and the rear glass in order to complete this repair.

Note: Retaining water resistance after the repair depends on how clean the mating surfaces are and how accurately the adhesive is reapplied. Your device will lose its factory-given IP (Ingress Protection) rating, however, only the T-Mobile versions of the OnePlus 9 5G offer an IP rating.

    • Completely power off your phone before you begin.

    • Prepare an iOpener and apply it to the rear glass for at least three minutes to loosen the adhesive underneath.

    • A hair dryer, heat gun, or hot plate may also be used, but be careful not to overheat the phone—the display and internal battery are both susceptible to heat damage.

    • Apply a suction handle to the rear glass, as close to the bottom edge as possible.

    • If your rear glass is badly cracked, covering it with a layer of clear packing tape may allow the suction handle to adhere. Alternatively, very strong tape may be used instead of the suction handle. If all else fails, you can superglue the suction handle to the broken rear glass.

    • Pull up on the suction handle with strong, steady force to create a gap between the glass and the frame.

    • If you have trouble creating a gap, apply more heat to further soften the adhesive.

    • Insert an opening pick into the gap.

    • If the adhesive becomes hard to cut, it has most likely cooled down. Use your iOpener to reheat it.

    • Insert a third opening pick underneath the bottom left corner of the rear glass.

    • Slide the opening pick along the left edge of your phone to slice the adhesive.

    • Leave the opening pick in the top left corner to prevent the adhesive from resealing.

    • Remove the rear glass.

    • If the rear glass is still stuck to the frame, slide an opening pick around the entire perimeter until the rear glass separates completely.

    • During reassembly secure the rear glass with pre-cut adhesive or double-sided adhesive tape. After installing the rear glass, apply strong, steady pressure to your phone for several minutes to help the adhesive form a good bond—a stack of heavy books works well.

    • Take care not to bend the battery during the removal procedure—a bent battery may leak dangerous chemicals or cause a fire.

    • Lift the battery from any remaining adhesive and remove it.

    • Don't reinstall a damaged or deformed battery, as doing so is a potential safety hazard.

    • During reassembly, temporarily reconnect the battery to the motherboard before you press it into place to ensure correct alignment. Disconnect the battery after it's seated.

    • Secure the new battery with pre-cut adhesive or double-sided adhesive tape. In order to position it correctly, apply the new adhesive into the device at the places where the old adhesive was located, not directly onto the battery. Press the new battery firmly into place.

The battery which you have in your list at the top of this guide, states it is a BLP829, this is incorrect. The correct battery number is a BLP821 or as seen in the pic above as an XA-P821-115, this I found out after following your guide & having the BLP829 ready to go in as a replacement.

The BLP829 connect's to the phone by a connector on the right, when trying to fit, but the BLP821 actually has it on the left hand side....this is when the battery has its connection point face down, & ready to be refitted.

So I think you need to correct your battery number in the list above, or there will be people like myself, who end up buying a battery that is not meant for the UK spec OnePlus 9, or at least warn people to, check which battery they need before purchasing, so they don't order the wrong battery & then have to wait for the correct to be delivered.

Conclusion

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.

During reassembly, apply new adhesive where it's necessary after cleaning the relevant areas with isopropyl alcohol (>90%).

For optimal performance, calibrate your newly installed battery after completing this guide.

Take your e-waste to an R2 or e-Stewards certified recycler.

The produce you sale, OnePlus 9 5G Battery - BLP829, have the cable upside down. It's shown on your picture. The smooth side show face up, but it faces down. There is no way to install it! I'm looking to return the battery.

I had the same issue, and additionally, the BPL829 is a few mm to tall to fit in the LE2115, even though the description says it is compatible. I got to the point I was ready to put the new battery in, and noticed the connector was facing the wrong way. I tried to fit it in anyway to see if I could make it work, and the new battery won't even fit in the slot. Very disappointed.

I had this same problem and asked about it in the forum. Top suggestion was to use the Oppo BLP821. I ordered one off the least-sketchy looking ebay seller for it, and it fits and functions perfectly. I am guessing the reason the T-Mobile variant is different, is because it's IP rated.

Just installed mine with the Oppo BLP821 battery - the cable was maybe 2mm further across than the OEM battery but there was enough slack in the cable to move it.

Just FYI, I did not need to remove the daughterboard or cables - the two cables which run over the battery could easily be bent out of the way. This simplifies the process and makes it significantly quicker.
