Background
The Wii U Pro Controller is a video game controller produced by Nintendo for the Wii U video game console. It was released in 2012 in both black and white color options. Many video game journalists have noted similarities between the design of the Wii U Pro Controller and Microsoft's Xbox 360 Controller.
The Wii U Pro Controller functions as a secondary controller for the Wii U console and was sold separately. The Wii U gaming system can connect up to four Wii U Pro Controllers at once, though Super Smash Bros. for Wii U allows connecting more than four controllers. Like more traditional controllers, the Wii U Pro Controller features standard analog sticks and face buttons. It also includes digital triggers like the Wii U GamePad and Classic Controller Pro.
The Wii U Pro Controller uses the same 1300 mAh CTR-003 battery as the Nintendo 3DS and 2DS models. This battery can last up to 80 hours on a single charge. The controller's charging cable plugs into any USB port. Some games with flexible control schemes like Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Trine 2: Director's Cut are compatible with the Classic Controller. However, the Wii U Pro Controller does not work with previous generation Wii games.
Identification
It comes in black or white and has two analog sticks, a digital d-pad, 10 digital face buttons, and four digital shoulder buttons. The design of this controller was based on attracting "hardcore" gamers with a more traditional design compared to the primary single-handed rectangular controller. The Wii U Pro Controller model number is WUP-005.
