Background

Announced on Halloween eve of 2023 and released shortly after in November, the entry-level MacBook Pro adopts its more powerful siblings' 14-inch form factor and a new M3 SoC. The 14" MacBook Pro shares many of the same features introduced in 2021's and continued in early 2023's MacBook Pros, including ProMotion HDR mini-LED displays, 1080p webcams with a display notch, full-size function keys, and the distinctive blacked-out keyboard. Small, yet notable changes from MacBook Pros equipped with M3 Pro or M3 Max chips include one less Thunderbolt port, one less fan, and a smaller battery.

Starting at a new base price of $1599, the 2023 14" MacBook Pro with M3 chip is available in either Silver or Space Gray.

Identification

Identify your MacBook Pro by the model number printed on its back cover.

You can also find the model number through macOS by choosing About This Mac from the Apple menu  in the upper-left corner of the screen.

Additionally, Apple offers a quick online tool to help identify your devices: Identify your MacBook Pro model.

The late 2023 MacBook Pro features a large flat glass screen, thin black bezels, a "notch" cutout at the top of the screen, black keys, and an aluminum enclosure. There's a large gloss black Apple logo on the top shell and "MacBook Pro" engraved into the bottom case.

A MagSafe 3 charging port, two USB-C ports, and a headphone jack can be found on the left edge, with an HDMI port and an SD card slot on the right.

The late 2023 MacBook Pro with M3 can be differentiated from late 2023 MacBook Pros with M3 Pro and M3 Max by the ports along the right edge. The base model M3 has no USB-C ports, while models with M3 Pro or M3 Max have one.
