Background

The Elitebook 8460p is a professional business and mobile workstation laptop designed by HP. Built and first released in August of 2008, the computer is over 10 years old. However, its ability to be easily fixed, upgraded, and maintained make it a great laptop to work with and experiment with.

HP’s Elitebook line of laptops are laptops designed to meet military specifications. Specifically, to operate under extreme conditions such as altitude, temperature, humidity, dust, and vibrations. The chassis were designed and built using plastic, magnesium alloy, and aluminum.

The 4th generation of Elitebooks included the 8640p which was designed to have a more boxy shape than previous generations and used less plastic in the construction. The 8460p was promoted as having 32 hours of battery life using a high capacity internal battery.
