These are some common tools used to work on this device. You might not need every tool for every procedure.

Background

The Dell Latitude 3500 is a laptop computer centered around productivity. The Latitude 3500 was released in 2019. Most of its internal hardware was near the head of the curve for the time with configurations that made use of Intel's 8th generation of CPUs, up to 32GB of DDR4 ram, and support for SSD and M.2 NVME Drives. There was quite a lot going for this machine in terms of multitasking and business applications.

However, there are two main downsides to the Latitude 3500: the display and the plastic shell. All configurations come with a TN display panel which has a small viewing angle. This means that anyone not viewing the display head on will see a distorted image. As for plastic, most laptop manufacturers opt for a metal casing or a mix of metal and plastic to provide more protection for the internals. The most well-known issue of the Latitude 3500 is warping or other damage to the plastic shell.

Dell's goal with the Latitude line has always been to compete with other lines aimed at business-minded consumers. This started with the earliest entry in the Latitude Line: The Latitude XPI, which had to compete with the likes of Lenovo's ThinkPad 385D. The Latitude 3500 carried its predecessor's torch upon its launch as its specs closely resembled those of the ThinkPad L390 which launched in the same year.

The Latitude 3500 would later be replaced by the Latitude 3510. Dell addressed the viewing angle issue by giving customers the option of a 1080p IPS Panel. Dell also moved to ditch the Intel Celeron entirely for Intel's 10th Gen Core CPUs. This is a decent step-up in performance from the 3510. Yet, Dell did not opt for a metal case with the Latitude 3510 either. They again chose a fully plastic shell which still proved to warp and bend under stress.

Identification

The Dell Latitude 3500 has an average screen size (15.6") with a compact profile. It is also notable for its wholly plastic shell. You can find the 3500's model number written on the product label on the bottom of the device. The power button can be found on the top right corner of the device above the keyboard. There is a touchpad found directly below the spacebar of the keyboard as well. You can find the power connector, one USB-C port, an HDMI port, an Ethernet port, two USB 3.1 ports, and an audio jack on the left side of the device. On the right side, there is a SIM card slot, one SD 3.0 memory card reader, a VGA port, and a lock slot for the device. The display also has an integrated webcam.

Additionally, certain configurations may have the following optional features:

  • Touch Screen Display (models with this display have an ovular notch for the camera, microphone, and status light)
  • Fingerprint Reader Integrated Within Power Button (Indicated by an absence of a white line on the power button)
