Toshaka's Gift (5e Spell)

The user transforms a small stone or pebble into a magical stone. The stone gets the appearance of a diamond but cannot be sold or traded to an npc, or another player. When the stone is used, it shines and turns into useless dust.

This page is of questionable balance. Reason: Allows for too many game breaking mechanics. Casting this with every spell slot available before a long rest. Or just taking a week to prepare for a large adventure by stockpiling stones. See talk page for more discussion.

You can help D&D Wiki by better balancing the mechanics of this page. When the mechanics have been changed so that this template is no longer applicable please remove this template. If you do not understand balance please leave comments on this page's talk page before making any edits.

Tohsaka's Gift
2nd-level Transmutation
Casting time: 10 minutes
Range: Touch
Components: V, S, M (a small pebble, which the spell consumes)
Duration: Permanent

The magical stone can be used as a 1st level spell slot by any creature that can use magic, and knows everything about the spell they wish to cast. Two or more stones can be used like a spell slot of greater level (the same as the number of stones used, until a maximum of 8, with 4 stones in each hand). For example, if you have 4 stones and know the chromatic orb spell, you can spend the 4 stones and cast chromatic orb at 4th level without spending a 4th level spell slot.

A total of 10 stones may be combined to create one seven day use gem which when eaten gives any player character with a spell casting class the ability to cast one spell of second level and below 10 times for 24 hours using intelligence as their spell casting ability. These charges are used up upon the next long rest and the player is unable to consume another gem for 30 days.

You cannot have more than 10 gems at the same time. Upon trying to create an 11th stone, their magic becomes unstable and every gem explodes, dealing 11d8 force damage to any creature within a 30ft sphere near the gems.

A Stone may be destroyed without using it for a spell at a thought by the caster causing 1d4 force damage to any creatures withing 5 feet of it.

At Higher Levels. When cast with a higher level spell slot this spell gives an additional stone per cast, for example at 2nd level it gives one stone per cast, with a 3rd level spell slot it gives two stones per cast, with a 4th level spell slot it gives three stones per cast, up until the 6th spell slot where it gives 5 per cast. This spell cannot be used with any spell slots higher than 6th.
