Necromancer's Mask (5e Equipment)
Wondrous Item (mask), legendary (requires attunement by a spellcaster who can cast a necromancy spell of 1st level or higher) The origin of this ancient mask has long since been lost to history. However, since its creation, the mask has since left it mark on history through its use by countless different necromancers to raise undead to attack the living and to forestall their own death. Many counterfeits and lookalikes have been created throughout the ages, but it is said the telltale signs of the necromancer's mask are the foreboding feelings others get by looking at the dark wooden mask with its streaks of black, red, and green. While attuned to this mask, you gain the followings effects: Foreboding Presence. The mask has a disturbing wax face that grants you a +4 bonus to Charisma (Intimidation) checks while worn. Leader of the Dead. While wearing this mask, you cannot die of old age. Reanimation. The necromancer's mask allows its wearer to animate several types of undead. The mask has 8 charges and regains all expended charges daily at dusk. When you touch a humanoid corpse, as an action you may spend 1 charge to instantly reanimate it into a skeleton or zombie, 2 charges to reanimate it into a ghoul, or 5 charges to reanimate it into a mummy or wight. You may command these undead as a bonus action on your turn as long as they are within 60 feet of you and every 24 hours, you must spend an amount of charges equal to the amount you spent creating the undead you control or your undead created by this effect crumble into dust. Undying Necromancer. If you drop to 0 hit points while wearing this mask, you may choose to instantly regain half of your total hit points. Once this property has been used, it can't be used again until the next dusk. However, every use of this property grants you a level of necromantic corruption. This corruption affect you in various ways, granting effects based your current level of corruption as shown on the Necromantic Corruption Effect Table. One corruption level is reverted through use of a greater restoration spell or better but once you reach 5 corruption levels, all effects listed on the table become permanent. |
