As an extra note, the reason this page isn’t so in depth like Orizon’s Cosmology page is because we already know what the cosmology of the DnD, and this campaign follows those rules, unlike horizon, which breaks them a little bit to make their universe more unique. Broadbarrel has a lot of lore that talks about spelljammers and other extraplanar beings and objects, so I wanted the world to be inclusive to those worlds so that they could overlap and let stories rumble in the hearts of GMs.

The Fiery Shell

The inside of the crystal sphere is similar to that of a sphere of annihilation that will annihilate any atom that touches it, exploding in a brilliant display of red fiery energy that raises Broadbarrel’s temperature for a while, and brings the sky to a blood red hue. See The Blood Sky. Nobody quite knows what caused the creation of The Fiery Shell, but some believe that there used to be at least one god in Broadbarrel, and it created the shell. This god is worshiped by cultists, who believe that the phoenix that exists today is it’s successor, and see it as an idol or messiah of sorts. See The Forgotten Phoenix. When something collides with the shell, the shell deteriorates, and Krystaalc covers the hole like a scab. Eventually, when the rift is repaired, the Krystaalc flakes off. See Krystaalc.

The Blood Sky

When something collides with The Fiery Shell, it creates a blood sky. In an explosion of blood red fiery energy that resonates throughout Broadspace. This heats up the planets, and turns their sky red. While no radiation per se is released, blood energy is. Blood energy is a strange force that turns all that touch it into bloodthirsty creatures, after the blood sky, they slowly revert to their original form, but while a blood Sky is occurring, those that are outdoors must make DC 10 Wisdom saving throws every minute or be turned into a bloodthirsty creature. Bloodthirsty creatures look similar to their original form, but darker, with blood red eyes without scleras, sharp teeth, and, of course, a taste of blood. They have the same stats as their original form, but gain the ability to innately cast vampiric touch, and can make a bite attack that deals 1d4 piercing and 1d4 necrotic damage, as well as being forced to attack everything in sight. If they already have a bite attack, then the attack deals an addition 1d8 necrotic damage. After the blood sky ends, bloodthirsty creatures are incapacitated for 1 day as they suffer immense pain, and return to their original state. All creatures and objects, even bloodthirsty creatures, take 3d12 fire damage every 10 minutes while outside during a blood sky. A blood sky will generally happen every 12d4 days, and last 6d6 minutes

The Forgotten Phoenix

The Forgotten Phoenix is a theoretical ancient god that is supposedly long since dead. Few people actually believe it exists, but those who do are religious cultists. Do remember that religion isn’t really a thing in Broadbarrel, and that cultists are few and far between. These cultists believe that the Phoenix is either an idol, messiah, or descendant or sorts from The Forgotten Phoenix, and worship The Forgotten Phoenix through the worship of the Phoenix. They often carry out painful sacrifices that involve burning the sacrifice to death while it is bound to a runed obelisk.

Celestial Bodies

Broadbarrel’s solar system.

Broadbarrel

Name
Broadbarrel
Type
Spherical Earth Body
Size
E
Satellites
The Ring of Fire, Salvation
Day Length
34 hours
Year Length
249 days

Description

Broadbarrel is a tidally locked planet that is mostly composed of a land called No Man’s Land, which is comparable to the surface of Venus. The habitable area of Broadbarrel lies in it’s southern pole, which faces away from the sun, even then, it’s still hot. A wall of volcanoes called The Volcanic Wall surrounds The Scorch (the main layer of the habitable area), this creates a sort of barricade preventing people from going into No Man’s Land, but who would want to anyway?

The Ring of Fire

A ring of sulphuric dust brought up to the atmosphere from Broadbarrel’s volcanos. It burns ever so slowly, relying on little air that seeps through Broadbarrel’s atmosphere. It’s a ring, just like what IRL Saturn has.

Salvation

Salvation is Broadbarrel’s moon that orbits and rotates in a way so that it’s always visible as a waxing gibbous with the same side always to Broadbarrel. The side that’s facing away from the sun is supposedly habitable and as cold as a northern mountaintop. Enough for it to snow and have ice. It’s called the moon by Broadbarrel’s inhabitants.

Haven

Name
Haven
Type
Spherical water Body
Size
D
Satellites
None
Day Length
40 hours
Year Length
386 days

Description

Haven is an unpopulated planet of water and a core of icy stone. Many spelljammer crews find themselves settling there to trade and live a nice vacation in a practically infinite ocean. While it has no native wildlife, fish and other aquatic creatures have been brought over to give galactic fishermen a living, and by galactic fishermen, I mean people who don’t want to starve to death on an alien planet. It doesn’t have any playable statistics, so be careful if you want to play on it.

Coriskar

Derived from coruscare; the Latin word for blaze
Name
Broadbarrel
Type
Spherical Fire Body
Size
H
Satellites
Broadbarrel, Haven
Day Length
14 hours, though it doesn’t matter much

Description

Coriskar is just like any other star, a bit bigger than Sol; Earth’s star, y’know, the one we live on. In real life. It is inhabited, but only by fire elementals and the such. Broadbarrel’s inhabitants call it the sun.
