This monster resembles a triceratops with a more squat body, and thick scales usually of a yellow, orange, or red color. As an omnivore, it usually favors grazing, but will actively hunt when food becomes scarce. This variety of dodongo is remarkable for its virtually impenetrable hide. According to legend, these reptilian monsters can't even be felled by mere swords and arrows. As the tale goes, they're the reason any adventurer worth his salt carries at least a few bombs. These dodongos lack the fiery breath of most of their kin. Instead, they rely on the brute strength of their horns and jaws. |
Variant: River Dodongo
Although it seems to be quite rare, there are known to exist armored dodongos with hylian-like intelligence and even the capability to speak and understand the words of men. The only well-known existence this variety is native to Holodrum and the neighboring country of Labrynna. These dodongos tend to be less bestial and aggressive than most. According to legend, they have even willingly carried humanoids across rivers and other bodies of water, hence the common name of "river dodongo."
A river dodongo has an Intelligence score of 8, and can speak up to two languages (usually including Common). Its swim speed increases to 40 feet. |
