The Gang
Tahniya Dogoro
- Anti-Hero: Type III to be exact.
- Bad Dreams: Haunted by the many things she wishes she could just forget.
- Eyes of Gold: They mark her as being special.
- Half-Human Hybrid: Her father was a Human that her mother seemed to share genuine care with. Despite her mother being part of the race he's supposed to hate, he showed a great deal of concern and protectiveness over infant!Tahniya.
- It Sucks to Be the Chosen One: Tahniya is less than thrilled about being called Chosen One, or the training required of her, or the things she did.
- Not So Stoic: Tahniya meets most of the story with unerring irritation and grouchiness. Until the end of course where her old mentor Mardune is killed. She finds Mardune’s head, still in her helmet, and breaks down crying whilst swearing revenge.
- Sanity Slippage: Word of God makes it out that this is happening to Tahniya in the second book.
- The Atoner: Tahniya has plenty to feel guilty about, but the turning point for her was slaughtering an entire village right down to the last child trying to escape her. She let the girl run away upon realizing how much of a monster she had become.
- The Chosen One: Tahniya, according to Anshuban Prophecy.
Zan Blackstone
- Anti-Hero: Type II.
- Dual-Wielding: Switches to two swords when he somehow loses his wakizashi.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Cranky and sarcastic, offers his coat and refuses to look when Lune is freezing and needs to change out of her wet clothes.
- Noodle Incident: It's never explained how he lost his sword.
- Tall, Dark and Snarky
- The One Guy: Not counting Muzok, he is surrounded by females.
Muzok
- Deadpan Snarker: Nearly every word that comes from Muzok is something snide or sardonic.
- Hellish Huntrak: Muzok is part of a horse like species that is their carnivorous counterpart. He in particular has all black fur, red eyes, strong sabre teeth, split hooves and freakin’ sickle claws arming the inside of his front legs.
- Sapient Steed: And he uses the gift of thought to snark when possible.
Lune Gladerage
- Dark Is Not Evil: She's a warlock, a weaver of misery, fire and demonic energy. She’s also level-headed, kind and not in the slightest bit evil.
- Glass Cannon
- Prophet Eyes: With her silvery eyes, unlike the rest of the Anshuban race aside from Tahniya.
Gwen Shadowstalk
- Dark-Skinned Blond: Described as having tan skin to go with her dirty blond hair.
- Knife Nut: Uses small blades in conjunction with her dexterity and stature.
- Messy Hair: To the point where Lune calls her "Little Lion."
- Plucky Comic Relief
Antagonists
Ashia
- Ambiguously Evil: When discussing plans to destroy the Tiger Clan, completely in the face of how she fights, she looks down on an attack at night, deeming it lowly of warriors who are supposed to be based around 'honour.' She then proceeds to gleefully take part in a daylight attack with absolutely no remorse for the good men and women she's killing.
- Cool Mask: Wears one to cover the lower half of her face, it's described as "bladed."
- Nonhuman Humanoid Hybrid: She is half demon and half something else. The other half has yet to be revealed.
- Purple Eyes
- Sai Girl: Uses these as her preferred weapon.
Kanile
- Devil in Plain Sight: Tahniya thinks of him like this. She was right.
- Mind Rape: Does a mild version of this to Tahniya, disturbing her with images of him torturing her. Why? Who knows.
- The Usurper: Once Tahniya's behaviour is brought to his attention.
Xeen
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Quiet, harmless, passive-aggressive backstabbing whore.
Allies
