The Amazing Atheist/YMMV
- Acceptable Targets: He has made quite a few videos targeting white supremacists. Those were likely among his least controversial videos.
- Alternate Character Interpretation: He considers the relationship between God and his followers to be akin to Domestic Abuse.
- He considers Pat Robertson to be a sociopath exploiting people's misery for profit.
- Has theorised that Bluto and Popeye are gay. Olive Oyl is The Beard, and their battling is an excuse to get close to one another and avoid the stigma homosexuality had back then.
- Complete Monster: What he's come to be seen as by many as of late, after he arguably crossed the Moral Event Horizon and got banned from TGWTG for it.
- Crosses the Line Twice
- The Distressed Watcher steers into this territory from time to time. In episode 13 of 'Trailer Failure' he said that the bombing of Pearl Harbor, starving children, and 9/11 combined were not as bad as Sex and the City 2. Though those who think this is bad are obviously not acquainted with The Distressed Watcher's YouTube work as The Amazing Atheist.
- His open letter to Kevin Smith that Smith's new movie Cop-Out was worse than the death of his father.
- Remember that time that your dad molested you?
- Dude, Not Funny: Three examples have been pointed out by viewers in his Distressed Watcher material: wanting to round up people that enjoyed Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen into concentration camps, wishing Jake Lloyd a heroin addict for playing Anakin Skywalker, and calling Cop Out even worse than the death of his father.
- The whole reddit fiasco, which only got worse when he started responding to critics with graphic rape threats as a "joke".
- His video "Nigggots" received such a level of Internet Backlash and accusations of racism that he eventually took it down.
- Ear Worm:
- Fan Dumb: Cartoonist Isaac Baranoff, an atheist libertarian, filmed a video for YouTube which mocked TJ's caustic humor. TJ responded by posting the page on his public Facebook, calling Baranoff The Fourth Stooge, resulting in fans attacking the video, despite the fact that it was intended as satire, and downvoting it on YouTube. These fans also falsely accused Baranoff of criticizing TJ on religious grounds, despite the fact that Baranoff is a known atheist, having discussed his atheism on his public website and in his comic strips.
- Funny Aneurysm Moment: At the beginning of his "Top 10 Anti-Heroes" video, someone comes up to him and asks "Aren't you the Distressed Watcher?" He answers "That was a long time ago. In another life." Then came his removal from That Guy with the Glasses.
- Ho Yay: The Amazing Atheist has made out with Case (aka FakeSagan aka HardCaseOwnsYou) during a fundraising BlogTV session. It was interesting to say the least.
- Internet Backdraft: The Distressed Watcher gets this a lot. The most prominent examples would be his video about why Scott Pilgrim flopped (His #1 reason? "All the general moviegoers are stupid.") and his joke about Cop Out being worse than his father's death.
- Jerkass Has a Point: Many many people believe him to be a loud, obnoxious jerk, and many of the people who believe that also think he has a good sense of rationality when it comes to serious issues.
- Memetic Badass: Cletus!
- Moral Event Horizon: There are many who believe he is far over this by now. His biggest moment, aside from the rape threats, would be calling Cop Out worse than his father's death.
- Never Live It Down: The banana incident.
- Straw Feminist: One of his favorite targets.
- The Scrappy: His That Guy With The Glasses alter-ego The Distressed Watcher. TGWTG fans have (unsuccessfully) petitioned for him to be removed from the site and appearantly he was also pretty unpopular with some contributors on the site. Lindsay has mentioned how she doesn't like how he revels in pissing people off and Film Brain said he doesn't really talk to the other contributors much, the exception being Benzaie, who Lindsay said defends him to 'the bitter end'.
- After he left the site he explained his perspective on the whole TGWTG-cooperation on his secondary YouTube-channel
- Some Anvils Need to Be Dropped: In his non-comedic 666th video, TJ talks mainly about some hypocrisies of society, such as double standards in racism and people being concerned more with his use of dark subject matter as comedy than with the matter itself.
- Tainted by the Preview: Trailer Failure.
- Tear Jerker: When his father died.
- True Art Is Incomprehensible: His surreal yet provocative "Cognitive Dissonance" video.
- What the Hell, Casting Agency?: When he became the Distressed Watcher on TGWTG.
