Ride Alone Complex/YMMV
In General
- Author's Saving Throw: Almost the entirety of the THI backstory article (see Took a Level in Badass below).
- Game Breaker: Aelita and Wyll in the Pink Lemonade flashbacks (and in Hardboiled Pink Lemonade), being Genius Lightning Bruisers wielding two Rider Gears that can, between them, theoretically emulate any OTHER Rider Gear in existence (if not also improve upon their own tricks).
- Idiosyncratic Ship Naming:
- FangOreo (Haruka/Yukari/Kaoru with options on Royce) is back in full force.
- Pink Lemonade (Aelita/Wyll) gets teased more intensely and intentionally than it ever was in KRV or on uTOHpia - ironic in that Haken's primary beef with Code Lyoko is that the UST between Ulrich and Yumi detracted from Aelita's plot being given its day in the limelight.
- LionHill has been coined somehow for Kenoko and Rebecca, expanding into KenokOreo when Haruka sticks around for observation purposes.
- And now KenokOreo is for Kenoko/ANYONE, given the amount of people that like her that way.
- Den-Oreo (Kirihiko/Chiyoko/Gally/Ana) has been namedropped on at least one occasion, albeit as a KRV artifact.
- Memetic Mutation: Axel has Narcissistic Personality Disorder. (Doesn't help his case that HE'S the one making the effort to propagate the meme.)
- That's the joke!
- Botchamania 161's Codec Call ending has rapidly spiraled into a virulent snowclone of jabs at The Reveal (in general) and several reveals in particular:
From the main page: [Tenpai]'s WYLL, AUSTIN! IT WAS WYLL ALL ALONG, AUSTIN!
- The Protomen get their due both in and out of character, from Haruka walking out of KRV to the tune of The Stand to Ace and Sieg's take on the timeline split cementing The Hounds as RAC's theme of diplomatic tone with KRV. (Fake spoilers: Haken is Wily in that regard.)
- Perverse Sexual Lust: The authors make no bones about their attractions to each other's characters:
Haken: Berserker Yukari continues to warm my heart, I dunno why.
Raven: That's probably the masochism wanting you to be ravaged by her. And for god's sake fix the dakimakura.
- Averted by Axel and Raven... For once.
- Surprisingly Improved Sequel: For several metrics of improvement, ranging from using the Mutants and Masterminds rules at arm's length to interspersing combat sessions more fluently and equally between the cast members.
- What Could Have Been: Various dips into several characters' pasts show us a few things that might have happened had Axel not gotten himself Put on a Bus (Or in the case of the Pink Lemonade sub-arc, even in spite of that).
The Main Work
- Character Rerailment: Kenoko and Akebara had previously been repossessed in their debut games following Axel's Role Ending Misdemeanors, and are reprised here in their Original Flavor (as original as it gets when accounting for sixty years of bitterness and/or a wholesale translation out of an SRW setting).
- One True Pairing: Considering there aren't too many "pairings" out there, the clear breakaway is Becca and Kenoko. Or as Haruka so succinctly puts it in OOC:
- Squick: Kaoru pulling a practical joke on Rebecca that makes it appear that she's attempting to elicit sex from her subordinate in her place of business.
- Answer: self-Unperson'ing due to her taking many, many levels in Femme Fatale.
- Holy crap Haruka what's wrong with you.
- Answer: Is sick and tired of these motherfucking Fangires threatening her motherfucking family - possibly even just as much with having her hands tied when it comes to dealing with them. (Also maybe using venting about it as the contract vector for a long-discarded Dark Diend or Proto-Diend or whatever.)
- Holy crap Yukari what's wrong with you.
- Answer: Has been alternating between living fear of and being sick/tired of Fangires threatening her family. The fact that she managed to break free of Inoue's control, got him killed, reformed her original personality, and created a method for Fangires and humans to live in peace makes her Heretic Number One in hardliner eyes. And her hands have been tied even tighter than Haruka's on this.
Hardboiled Pink Lemonade
- Fate Worse Than Death / Ascend to a Higher Plane of Existence: FangOreo's fate aboard the caboose of DeadLiner. Wyll contends the former, Haken contends the latter (via them Running the Asylum) and has confirmed such in Body Communication. Aelita's stance is unknown but could break either way, albeit she contends Django at least took them in as a favor.
- Tear Jerker: Aelita's surprisingly poignant phone-tag message to Haruka. Invoked semi-intentionally: Haken started misting up halfway through typing it, and Axel just plain broke down when he got the chance to read it.
uTOHpia
- Game Breaker: The majority of the splat's houserules, which have, in multiple test cases, resulted in Devices spitting out PL15 to PL20-tier (or even more overspecced) powers for characters created within the PL10-to-PL15 range. Examples to be linked as the Fog of War lifts, considering many are KRV and/or RAC spoilers.
- Of course, this could just be Refuge in Audacity, knowing these guys.
