Pretty Cure Mother Nature
Pretty Cure Mother Nature is a fanfic by Ojamajo 13 with a nature theme.
A character sheet can be found here.
Tropes used in Pretty Cure Mother Nature include:
- Aint No Rule: At Tsubomi No Yume, there's no male ballet uniform, but no rule stating that boys can't be ballet students. What do you do in such a situation? Easy: put them in the girls' ballet uniform!
- Alpha Bitch: Angie Fujioka.
- Call Back: After Ms. Aika brings up the tradition of casting a female as the Nutcracker Prince after assigning the role to Chiyo, Rokuro alludes to the incident that led Chiyo to find out his true gender.
Rokuro: Yeah, as if all those "nut cracker" jokes weren't tasteless enough already. And I'm looking at you, Chiyo!
- Celebrity Voice Actor: Emma Watson voices male drama student Daisuke Shimizu, Bonnie Wright voices ballet student Suzu Yamaguchi, and Liza Ross voices ballet teacher Aika Ito.
- Crosscast Role: Every single ballet production put up by Ms. Aika's class involves this with all the male roles. Despite Chiyo's own tomboyish personality, even she gets surprised when she's cast as the Nutcracker Prince in the class production of The Nutcracker opposite Rokuro as Maria, and Rokuro is equally surprised.
- Poor Rokuro finds himself subjected to this a lot, playing the Princess in the production of Swan Lake. Chiyo herself is cast as Prince Siegfried in the same production.
- Cross-Dressing Voices: Surprisingly averted with Rokuro; see Larynx Dissonance for more details. Played straight with Daisuke, in which case it also doubles as Celebrity Voice Actor in the English dub courtesy of Emma Watson.
- Custom Uniform: Rokuro's school uniform looks a bit different than most students if his mugshot on the Purifanstar Wiki's page is anything to go by. In fact, given the circumstances it may be a Transfer Student Uniforms.
- Disappeared Dad: Chiyo's father died before the events of the series.
- Dragged Into Drag: Since Tsubomi No Yume does not have a male ballet uniform but boys are welcome to take ballet classes as well, any boy that takes these classes winds up in the same leotard, short skirt, thigh-high stockings, and ballet slippers as the girls.
- Dressed in Layers: Starting with his second ballet class, Rokuro wears his ballet uniform under his school uniform and removes his school uniform, then takes off his dress shoes and replaces them with his ballet slippers. The first time he does this, he's a bit nervous but does so when prompted by Ms. Aika as she introduces him. As he slowly sheds his masculine layer, the girls go Squee at the sight.
- Dropped a Bridget On Him: Rokuro does this when Chiyo accidentally grabs his "magic stick" as she trips and falls. Ms. Aika apologizes for not letting her students know his true gender, since maybe he'd be less embarrassed that way.
- Every Proper Lady Should Curtsy: Rokuro does this several times during ballet class scenes.
- Gender Flip: In one episode, Mariya does a gender-flipped pas de deux with a blushing Rokuro on a whim.
- The Glasses Come Off: Shika, briefly, after she accidentally breaks them at one point.
- Groin Attack: How Chiyo accidentally found out Rokuro's gender.
- Hot Chick in a Badass Suit: Chiyo's formalwear consists of a white pantsuit with pink rose.
- Innocent Innuendo: The girls' jaws drop in shock when they hear Ms. Aika mention giving Rokuro "private lessons", and they breathe a sigh of relief when she continues that the lessons are so he'd be all caught up with them in terms of ballet skill within a few weeks.
Chiyo: Wow. For a minute I actually thought you were a closeted Shotacon. You actually had me scared there! Thanks for clearing that up.
- Just Friends: Chiyo and Rokuro, as well as Suzu and Rokuro. Doesn't stop Ms. Aika from pairing Chiyo and Rokuro together in Cross Cast Roles for The Nutcracker.
- Keet: This is what Rokuro eventually matures into. Of course, there are times, especially during ballet class, when his face conveys a sense of serenity and grace.
- Lady Land: A de facto and In Name Only example with the Tsubomi No Yume ballet class, started the year before the events of the series. Despite it being co-ed, boys never bothered to join until Rokuro did so, leading the school administration to assume that the school didn't need a boys' ballet uniform. Boy, was that off base!
- Larynx Dissonance: Rokuro goes for a soft and breathy voice for his initial ballet class. He switches to his normal voice when Chiyo accidentally puts her hand on his crotch when she trips in front of him after ballet class. He actually sounds very much like a teenage boy from that point onward.
- Meganekko: Rokuro is a male example, especially since he even wears his glasses to ballet class. Ms. Sango is a straighter example, as are Shika and Azumi. Daisuke, by virtue of having Cross-Dressing Voices in both the Japanese and English versions, is arguably a male example as well despite dressing in gender-appropriate attire 100% of the time (save for the school's annual crossdressing day, and even then he wears shorts in lieu of a skirt).
- Modesty Shorts: Worn by Mariya with any of her outfits that incorporate a skirt, and believe it or not, she's actually one of the more traditionally feminine supporting characters and that's her idea of feminine modesty. Of course, she'll wear bike shorts even when there's no risk of Panty Shots (i.e. during ballet class, where with the exception of the teacher, all participants, including The One Guy, wear leotards). Chiyo also wears bike shorts with her school uniform, her Cure costume, and her own ballet uniform. Akemi is quite prone to this.
- Name's the Same: Angie probably said it best when she told Chiyo (who was about to depart for San Diego while cosplaying as Haruhi Fujioka), "Stealing my surname, are we, Hanasaki?"
- Nonuniform Uniform: Mariya wears Modesty Shorts with her ballet attire. Unlike other ballet examples, she wears this over her leotard, and the top edge perfectly aligns with the waistline of her skirt. Chiyo starts wearing her own shorts with her ballet uniform in the middle of her first class and wears a tight-fitting white camisole top and the aforementioned shorts during the recital in episode 48 instead of what her classmates (even Rokuro) are wearing.
- The One Guy: Rokuro, as far as the ballet classes are concerned.
- On Ice: The plot of one "Chiyo vs. Angie"-themed episode.
- Pimped-Out Dress: Rokuro wears a fancy blue one designed for him by Chiyo for Princess Day.
- Pink Is for Sissies: Why Rokuro does not want pink on his dress for Princess Day.
- Precision F-Strike: From the mouth of Chiyo, after, while falling, she accidentally puts her hand on Rokuro's crotch:
Rokuro: KYAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!
Chiyo: What the hell is that thing under your leotard!?
- Real Men Wear Pink: Subverted; while Rokuro's ballet attire is just as feminine as those of his female classmates, the Tsubomi No Yume ballet uniform has blue all over it.
- In the epilogue, the ballet class serves as a manhood litmus test for the few boys that joined at the start of the next school year. Rokuro himself ultimately passed the manhood litmus test with the courage he gathered during his lessons over time (though he did have to be prompted to participate in Princess Day in its early stages that year).
- She Cleans Up Nicely: Chiyo and her kimono in episode 6, though she does pair it with Modesty Shorts, true to her tomboyish nature.
- Stepford Smiler: Usually, Rokuro is trying to keep up a positive facade during ballet classes despite being embarrassed about what he has to wear. There are few times where his embarrassment actually shows, such as when he, Chiyo, and Ms. Aika are alone in the dance studio together and Chiyo accidentally grabs his "magic stick" as she trips and falls.
- Theme Naming: All the villains have names relating to natural disasters.
- Wholesome Crossdresser: Rokuro, when he's studying ballet on Saturdays. In fact, everyone at Tsubomi No Yume on its annual crossdressing day, and yes, even Daisuke. He just wears shorts with his uniform in lieu of a skirt.
- Witch with a Capital B: Chiyo refers to Angie as such in the first episode.
- Zettai Ryouiki: Grade A is worn by all the ballet students at Tsubomi No Yume--yes, even Rokuro.
