Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is a British actress, born in France on April 15th, 1990, who is perhaps best known for playing Hermione in the Harry Potter movies. She is following up the Potter series with a small role in My Week with Marilyn and the female lead in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. She has been tapped to play Beauty in a Guillermo del Toro version of Beauty and The Beast. On 29 February 2012, it was announced she will act in the Sofia Coppola film The Bling Ring.

Has the most substantial Hatedom among the three Potter leads for some reason. Her detractors will tell you that, over the course of the series, she gradually shifted from playing Hermione to playing Emma Watson while her defenders will argue that her only crime was being more attractive than her character is supposed to be. That's as far as we're getting into that.

Not to be confused with Emily Watson or Emma Thompson.

Emma Watson provides examples of the following tropes:
    • Adaptational Attractiveness/Progressively Prettier/Hollywood Homely: In the books, Hermione is described as looking somewhat homely -- not ugly, per se, but rather plain. This didn't happen in the movies, especially considering, towards the end of the series, Emma Watson started to get work as a, you know, model. Then again, by Goblet of Fire, both Harry and Ron start to notice that Hermione cleans up well, and Harry is taken aback by how much different she looks When She Smiles.
      • In a conversation with Daniel Radcliffe on the Deathly Hallows blu ray, JK Rowling admits all three of the actors were too good looking for the characters that she thought of as "geeky":

It was really lucky I spoke to Emma on the phone first before I met her because I fell absolutely in love with her. She said to me, in a rushed tone, ‘I’ve only ever acted in school drama plays before! And my god! I just can’t believe I got the part!’ She spoke 60 seconds without drawing breath and I just said, ‘Emma, you’re perfect.’ And when I met her and she was this very beautiful(which she still is of course), beautiful girl, I just kinda had to go, “It’s film, deal with it. I’m still going to see the geeky, ugly duckling Hermione in my mind.”
