Before this page was used to make a Metalocalypse character page, it used to be the blackest present for the most brutal of all tropers. NOTHING!
Dethklok
The Band
Band Tropes
- A God Am I: Hinted at throughout the series, the group themselves are totally oblivious to this, at least until Skwisgaar starts to believe it.
- Anti-Hero: type V
- Anything That Moves
- Artist Disillusionment
- Badass Decay: They set the record from the beginning of the very metal opening, to the start of the pilot episode where they show how incompetent they are.
- "Brilliant" But Lazy: By brilliant, this troper means as musicians.
- Celebrity Power: Brutally deconstructed.
- Estrogen Brigade Bait: All of them, save Murderface. (The most popular among fans seem to be Skwisgaar, Ofdensen, Toki, and Nathan).
- Five-Man Band
- Fiction 500
- Genius Ditz
- Groupie Brigade
- The Heavy: Each petty choice they make has social and economic shock-waves, setting topics for each episode.
- At one point, the economy of the entire world is dependent on the release of their newest album. And then "Prankklok" happened.
- Heroic Comedic Sociopath
- Informed Ability
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Yes, even Murderface.
- Mad Artist
- Man Child: All of them to some extent (often crossing over into Psychopathic Manchild). Toki is
probablythe most childish. - Mike Nelson, Destroyer of Worlds: See A God Am I.
- Nakama: They'll never ever admit it (because "it's not metal") but they care for one another and for Ofdensen, their manager. Okay, Toki may try to admit it, but they'll call him names.
- NGO Superpower
- No Celebrities Were Harmed: Read each band member's Expy page below.
- The Power of Rock: And there is no shortage of it.
- Ragtag Bunch of Misfits
- Rich in Dollars, Poor In Sense
- Rule of Metal
- Self-Deprecation: WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING RIIIIGHHHTTT !!!!
- Serious Business: Death Metal in general and their contracts and money.
- Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll: Two of the three (if not all three) will apply to all of them.
- Too Dumb to Live
- Unusual Euphemism: Hamburger Time
- Vitriolic Best Buds
Skwisgaar Skwigelf (Taller than a Tree)
- A God Am I: He never met his father. He came to the conclusion that he was not born from man, but instead a God.
- Alliterative Name
- Captain Ersatz: Of Swedish guitarist, Yngwie Malmsteen and Finnish singer and guitarist, Alexi Laiho.
- Conversely, Guitar Hero World Tour also had a character who was a Captain Ersatz of Skwisgaar himself, complete with the exact same hair design, called Marcus Fretshredder.
- Casanova
- Catch Phrase: "Dildos!"
- Dumb Blonde
- Estrogen Brigade Bait
- Funny Foreigner
- Harmful to Minors: His mother's sexual behavior when he was a child.
- Heavy Mithril: In a character interview, he mentions one of his side projects is tribute band named Ten Points to Gryffindor.
- Likes Older Women
- Man in White: In the flashbacks, and when symbolically juxtaposed with Toki.
- Money Fetish: In Renovationklok, he blows a few billion on a solid platinum practice chamber and solid ruby metronome. "It's so expensive, it makes mes horny."
- Out of Focus: Of all the bandmates, he seems to get the least amount of subplots focused on him, and has the least amount of his own songs.
- Really Gets Around: A running joke is that he's not very selective when it comes to groupies.
- The Lancer
- The Woobie
- You No Take Candle
Toki Wartooth (Not a Bumblebee)
- Adult Child
- Ambiguous Disorder
- Beware the Nice Ones
- Break the Cutie: It seems every episode focusing on him is going to involve yet another horrible traumatic memory being added to his brain.
- Butt Monkey
- Catch Phrase: "Wowee!"
- Characterization Marches On: In the pilot episode and some of season one, he is a lot more mellow and normal compared to his innocent squeeky voiced nature later on.
- The Chick
- Drowning My Sorrows: The season 2 finale after his dad dies.
- Estrogen Brigade Bait: Of all the band members, he's in the best shape, having a huge set of six pack abs, and his skin never gets sun burnt, it only tans.
- Expy: Of Mikael Ã…kerfeldt
- Fan Service / Fan Disservice: Toki's pole-dancing.
- Friend to All Children: Played with. He's the band-member most popular among kids. He initially hates his Friend to All Children reputation and hates children, but has a weird epiphany of sorts.
- Funny Foreigner
- The Load: Season Two and beyond. His guitar skills somehow worsen, as Skwisgaar suggests.
- Madden Into Misanthropy: The poor, annoying, Snakes N' Barrels fan didn't see it coming.
- Moe: For the most part.
- Naive Newcomer: Somehow, Dethklok is his first band.
- Name of Cool
- Name's the Same: Not to be confused with another Toki with healing powers.
- Not So Harmless: Despite his incredibly childish behavior, he is just as dark and violent and metal as the others.
- Preacher's Kid
- Sweet Tooth: Especially when he was being endorsed by candy companies, eating only candy until he ended up falling into a diabetic coma.
- Tsundere: Verging into Cute and Psycho at times.
- Vocal Evolution: His voice stays high pitched in later episodes.
- The Woobie
- You No Take Candle
William Murderface (Murderface Murderface)
- The Big Guy: Subverted in that despite his figure, he is actually a very uncertain and emotionally sensitive person.
- Butt Monkey
- Catch Phrase: "Piss!" and other variants. Also "I was thinking.. not very hard, mind you".
- Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He's mostly a moronic, mooching Ted Baxter, but the man can play bass with body parts that weren't meant to touch an instrument. He can also write music like the others, but he won't until his own money is in jeopardy.
- Expy: Of Geezer Butler
- Freud Was Right: Muderface is very apprehensive about eating hot dogs, bananas and sausages.
- The Friend Nobody Likes
- Gonk: To the point there is not a woman on earth that will sleep with him.
- Identical Grandson: To his grandma, Stella.
- Jerkass Woobie: Even the creators of the show agree, Murderface is a tortured soul who desperately needs acceptance and a cure for his extreme loneliness and sensitivity... but he is also a complete and total asshole who is repugnant in every way.
- Names to Run Away From Really Fast
- Nobody Loves the Bassist: Comes in around season two where its revealed that Nathan often time edits out his tracks on albums. The finale of season two also saw Murderface get mocked by two groupies just because he's the bassist.
- Shower of Angst: After an "incident" at the doctor's office.
- The Southpaw: Possibly. He signed a contract with his left hand.
- Given that he plays right handed, and even refers to his right hand as his bass playing hand, its possible he's ambidextrous.
- That hand was his left hand, he picks with his right.
- Which is how right handed people play bass and guitar in general.
- Ted Baxter
- Tsundere
- Ugly Cute
- The Woobie
Pickles the Drummer (Doodily Doo, Ding Dong Doodily Doodily Doo)
- American Accents: Being from WI, he speaks with a sort of a hybrid of Inland North and North Central accents.
- Berserk Button: Being reminded that he's The Unfavorite. That and sobriety it seems.
- By the Power of Greyskull: "By the power of all that is evil, I command you to awaken and MAKE ME A SANDWICH!"
- Catch Phrase: "Douchebags!" or "Motherdouchebags!"
- Expy: Of Devin Townsend from metal band, Strapping Young Lad (appearance), Axl Rose (being the former front man of Guns N' Roses parody band, Snakes N' Barrels) and Roger Taylor (drum playing style according to Brendon Small).
- Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
- Immune to Drugs
- Odd Name Out: Really, Pickles?
- Old Shame: The former front man for hair metal band Snakes N' Barrels.
- Only One Name: Unless you count his title on the band.
- Self Fanservice: It seems many people who make fan art of him seem to completely ignore the fact that he is balding and has a dread-lock comb-over, giving him a flowing straight full head of hair.
- Even fanworks with a less idealized art style often exaggerate the height difference between Pickles and the other band members for the purposes of humor or cuteness.
- Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll: Pickles was a part of this culture in The Eighties.
- The Smart Guy: The smartest guy in Dethklok anyway. He's the most multi-talented of the group, because of his experience with Snakes N Barrels.
- The Unfavorite: In his family, what's worse, his conman, leach of a brother is the favorite.
- "Well Done, Son" Guy: When Murderface tried to act fatherly to Skwisgaar, Pickles acted this trope, in part due to his own father's neglect.
- The Woobie
Nathan Explosion
- Ambiguous Disorder
- The Anti Hero
- Badass Biker: With a motorcycle with no less than four sidecars.
- Big Guy: Type 3.
- Catch Phrase: "Brutal." and "NOOOOOOOOOO!"
- Even Bad Men Love Their Papas: It is revealed in season 3 that the two actually enjoy some quality time together when they get the chance.
- Expy: Of George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher.
- Guttural Growler
- Governor Evil: Of Florida.
- Name of Cool

- Faking the Dead
- Fan Nickname: Scarles
- The Glasses Come Off: Subverted, the glasses usually stay on, it's the tie that comes off.
- Good Scars, Evil Scars: When Ofdensen got the everloving shit beaten out of him during the season 02 finale, the Metal Masked Assassin cut his cheek quite deeply. When Ofdensen makes his triumphant return in the season 03 premiere, he has a scar from it. But after the premiere it is no longer visible, at least to the naked eye.

Dethklok Families
Dethklok Families Tropes
- Calling the Old Man Out: Inverted, the parents called out Dethklok.
Oscar and Rose Explosion
- Abusive Parents: Subverted, they are actually very good parents to Nathan overall. Still, Rose can get drunk and embarrassing, while Oscar resents Nathan for making give up his drinking to raise him.
- Either this was retconned, or Oscar and Nathan patched things up. In "Fatherklok," Nathan openly states that he loves his dad and that they often hang out together.
- It was hinted that Explosion Sauce patched up their relationship.
- Good Parents
- My Beloved Smother
Thunderbolt and Stella Murderface
- Abusive Parents: Subverted in that his grandparents who raised Murderface are jerkasses and his mom, who we know next to nothing about, doesn't fit this trope. His father who killed his wife and himself with a CHAINSAW when Murderface was an infant is a different story.
- Death Seeker: Thunderbolt, because his body was failing him. He got his wish second season.
- Drives Like Crazy: Stella, on a mobility scooter of all things.
- Identical Grandson: To his grandmother
Calvert, Molly and Seth
- Abusive Parents: Pickles constantly has to play "Well Done, Son" Guy to his parents, who favor Seth, Pickles' manipulative con-man of a brother. Calvert goes as far as to tell Pickles that he "...belongs in a garbage can" when he was a teen kicking him out of their home.
- Les Yay: Molly, with Toki's mom.
- Cluster F-Bomb: Seth
- Con Man: Seth
- Mark Hamill: here again, voicing Calvert
- NGO Superpower: Seth, who as the president of Dethklok's fan club in Sydney, Australia, can pull resources he needs to protect him and his family from the Revengencers, even at the risk of the safety of city.
- Pretty Freeloaders: Seth
- The Unintelligible: Seth
Serveta Skwigelf
- Abusive Parents: To say she is a promiscuous slut would be an insult to promiscuous sluts everywhere. Sure her son, became a kickass guitarist because of it, but he also gained her rampant promiscuity.
- The man she later married however was a pretty nice guy, too bad he married a massive slut.
- Alliterative Name
- Anything That Moves
- Dumb Blonde
- Hot Mom
- Grandma, What Massive Hotness You Have!: She's still sexually active at her age, and Murderface has expressed attraction towards her. She's also really a grandma to tons of illegitimate kids.
- Really Gets Around: Extra emphasis on "really."
- You No Take Candle
Aslaug and Anja Wartooth
- Abusive Parents: Aslaug, who is apparently a reverend, would regularly abuse and treat Toki cruelly. The level of physical and emotional abuse Toki endured form him was ridiculous, yet Toki loved his father enough to try to give him his dying wish.
- Death Glare: Both... to Toki... constantly.
- Humiliation Conga: Aslaug, minutes before he died, some would say he deserved it for how he treated Toki.
- Killed Off for Real: Aslaug

Other Characters
Leonard Rockstein aka Dr. Rockso, The Rock & Roll Clown (he does cocaine)
- Ambiguously Brown: His skin color without the face paint.
- It was said in "Cleanzo", that he was Caucasian. His skin was much lighter, as shown in his child picture. However, his skin might have darkened from the drugs and face paint.
- Catch Phrase: "I'm Dr. Rockzo and I do c-c-cocaine !"
- Cold Turkeys Are Everywhere: One reason he couldn't stay clean.
- Easily Forgiven: By Toki, over and over again. Even after supposedly having cut himself off from the clown for good.
- Explained and slightly justified in Dethzazz: Toki had a doll that looked like a clown that he kept with him when he was being punished as a child, so he associates clowns with safety and happiness. Yes, even the creepy, unreliable, cocaine-addicted ones.
- Ensemble Darkhorse: The other reason.
- Ephebophile: Which explains his attraction to 14-year-old Dory and, twenty years later, her about the same age daughter.
- Expy/NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Of David Lee Roth and his old band Zazz Blazzymatazz appears to be based on Van Halen.
- Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
- Karma Houdini: In Dethmas.
- Not so much it is revealed later on. The next time we see him, he's gone to jail, complete with being on the receiving end of Prison Rape.
- Large Ham
- Monster Clown
- Moral Event Horizon: Also in Dethmas.
- Zig Zagged and Played for Laughs: He does cross the line pretty often, but no matter how heinous his latest deed is, he still gets redeemed somehow by the next episode... Only to cross the line even harder the next time, beginning the cycle anew.
- No One Could Survive That
- Not So Harmless
- Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll

- No One Could Survive That
- The Shrink: Subverted, while he definitely fits as the harmful example of this trope, he actually helps Dethklok.

- Killed Off for Real
- Fan Dumb: Did he and his brother really expect Dethklok to sit there while they tried to blackmail them ?
- Fat and Skinny: He was skinny.
- No One Could Survive That: He Didn't Get Better

- The Eighties
- Expy/NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Guns N' Roses. Members, Thunderbottom, Candynose, Bullets are based off Slash, Poison drummer, Rikki Rockett and Joe Perry respectively.
- Garfunkel: The remaining band members after Pickles left.
- Hey, It's That Voice!: Each of the members of SnB is voiced by a musician: Thunderbottom by Michael Amott (Arch Enemy guitarist), Candynose by Warrel Dane (Nevermore vocalist), and Snazz by Steve Smyth (Forbidden guitarist). Ironically enough, only Snazz's instrument of choice matches his voice actor's.
