Covert Affairs/Characters
Covert Affairs
Main
Annie Walker
Played by Piper Perabo
Annie Walker (Piper Perabo) is a talented CIA officer. She entered into the CIA because she got "burned by love" when she "let her guard down", a reason that makes Auggie say she "fits the profile" of a typical CIA worker. She is compassionate, and genuinely desires to help those she meets on missions. She speaks seven languages, including Spanish, English, and Russian, and is able to hold her own in a fight.
- Action Girl
- All Women Love Shoes: Annie's cover story to go back to the scene of the shooting is that she wants to retrieve her Louboutins.
- Broken Bird
- Combat Pragmatist
- Combat Stilettos: Usually averted.
- Cunning Linguist: Did you read that part where she speaks seven languages?
- High-Class Call Girl: Annie impersonates one in the pilot.
- Improbable Weapon User: So far the best examples are a bottle of Vodka and a pair of handcuffs.
- MacGyvering
- You! Get Me Coffee!: Annie. She gets upgraded to walk-in work, though! And then lunch duty! And it is always noted that whenever she goes into the field, it's limited to situations where her skills would be useful such as being a liason.
Auggie Anderson
Played by Christopher Gorham
Auggie Anderson worked as a CIA special operative, but was blinded on a mission in Iraq. As he put it, he got out to look at what he thought was a dead dog, and the "next thing [he] knew, [he] was Ray Charles". This turns out not to be true.
- Blind Mistake: Uses this trope deliberately to coincidentally be there whenever Annie needs him.
- Big Brother Instinct
- Big Brother Mentor
- Disabled Snarker
- Byronic Hero: He's the Nice Guy version of this. Intelligent and charismatic? Check, Dark events in his past that he feels the need to atone for? Check. Resistance to authority? Check. Cynical and Jaded? It's subtle but it's there.
- Disability Superpower / Hyper Awareness
- Handicapped Badass
- Iron Woobie
- Like Brother and Sister: To Annie. So far...
- Nerves of Steel
- Nice Guy
- Shirtless Scene: Often.
- Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Apparently lots of them do.
Joan Campbell
Played by Kari Matchett
Joan is the head of the DPD and wife of Arthur Campbell, head of special operations.
- A Mother To Her People
- Badass
- Berserk Button: Do not hurt one of her people, or prevent her from helping them when their in danger.
- Combat Stilettos
- Da Chief
- Hey, It's That Guy!: Maggie from Leverage
- Iron Lady
- Reasonable Authority Figure: At least to her own people. Not so much when other agencies get involved, most notable the FBI at least from their perspective.
Jai Wilcox
Played by Sendhil Ramamurthy
His father was the head of the CIA. Because of this, he seems to have issues relating to people in the workplace. He was also sent to befriend Annie to get information about Ben Mercer from her.
- Anti-Hero: He's much more morally gray than either Auggie or Annie.
- Deadpan Snarker
- Ho Yay: With Ben and possibly Auggie, both may overlap with Foe Yay.
- Smug Snake: Sometimes.
Arthur Campbell
Played by Peter Gallagher
Arthur Campbell is the head of the National Clandestine Service. He is married to Joan Campbell.
Secondary
Danielle Brooks
Danielle Brooks is Annie Walker's sister. She is married, has two children (both girls), and lets Annie live in her guest house.
- Hey, It's That Guy!: Amber/Cutthroat Bitch from House Season 4!
Ben Mercer
Ben Mercer is a wanted person by the CIA. He and Annie Walker spent three weeks together in Sri Lanka, and fell deeply in love, but he left in the middle of the night, only leaving a note which read, "The truth is complicated, forgive me".
