Tropes used in Blood in The Water include:
  • The Dreaded: Josh. In Dance of Destiny and Let The Flames Begin, he was a Terror Hero, scaring the pants off any Plasma or Galactic Grunts he ran into. After he finally achieved Fallen Hero status, he began a reign of terror that was centered on Konar, but the aftereffects of his deeds reached the other regions and continued to inspire fear in people all across the world. He was so feared that the Konar Champion, Naomi, who was essentially the Big Good of the story, freaked out when the protagonists told her they wanted to take him on. Giovanni had a massive Oh Crap reaction when Josh appeared in his window. Even after his death, people were still terrified if they saw a Rayquaza flying around, any more than a few believed he wasn't actually dead.
    • Word of God also says that if Josh hadn't been killed in that final battle, he would have grown up to enslave the rest of the world with his power.
  • Eucatastrophe: Effectively, Josh has won. Anna and Siobhan have been stalled by fighting Franz, who is attempting to kill them with his Lugia. Skyla is being deterred by a brainwashed Rico. Giovanni is attacking Mewtwo with Genesect. Josh himself has beaten all of Haleigh's Pokemon and forced Arceus to intervene, pissing it off enough to use Judgment and level the island, exactly what he wanted to happen. Arceus is pulled back into its own dimension thanks to Josh's Olympous Mons, and there is pretty much no way to win. But then Giratina pulls a Heel Face Turn and sides with Haleigh, forcing it and Haleigh to engage Josh and his Rayquaza in an aerial battle above the ruined city.
  • Lady of War: Naomi, who is the Pokemon Champion of the Champion League—meaning that Blue, Lance, Steven, Cynthia, and Alder all report to her. She's usually seen wearing an elegant olive green gown and her hair is always done up. Also, she keeps her Dragonite with her at all times. Even when She is usurped by Josh, she still retains her composure and the civilians of Konar look to her for guidance. She actually leads the charge against the Elite Four and personally defeats two of them, Aubree and Daniel.
  • The Rest Shall Pass: All of the 'Dex Holders appear as The Cavalry, but then it is revealed that Franz has sent the remaining Elite Four members and the hypnotized Gym Leaders after the protagonists. This changes the possible outcome of the scenario entirely, as now the inexperienced Trainers are the only ones left to face the Big Bad. As the three protagonists leave, the audience is greeted with this badass scene:

Blue: *draws a Pokeball from her pocket* Do you think they'll be okay?
Green: They're decent enough trainers. *enlarges a Pokeball in his hand*
Gold: Not as good as us though, right? *grins*
Silver: *scoffs*
Red: *silently staring at the approaching enemy*
Green: Go! *all Dex Holders throw their Pokeballs simultaneously*

    • It later happens again: Anna and Siobhan are forced to stay behind and battle Franz himself, while Haleigh goes on to fight Josh.
