History

WWE (2020–present)

Formation

On the May 11, 2020 episode of Raw, MVP aligned himself with Bobby Lashley and promised Lashley to manage him into WWE Championship victory, which greatly angered Lashley's on-screen wife, Lana. The following week on Raw, Lashley and MVP observed WWE Champion Drew McIntyre's match from the stage, and McIntyre stated he wanted to face Lashley at Backlash.[1] At the event on June 14, Lashley failed to capture the WWE Championship following a distraction from Lana.[2][3] The following night on Raw, Lashley blamed Lana for his loss at Backlash and he would then ask for a divorce, thus ending their romantic storyline.[4]

Expansion

On the June 22 episode of Raw, Lashley attacked United States Champion Apollo Crews and placed him in his full nelson hold after he turned down MVP's offer to join them.[5] On the June 29 episode of Raw, MVP defeated Crews in a non-title match. The following week on Raw, MVP unveiled a new United States Championship design and proclaimed himself as the "real" United States Champion, although Crews officially remained the United States Champion.[6] During the next few weeks, MVP and Lashley feuded with Crews' allies, Cedric Alexander and Ricochet.

At The Horror Show at Extreme Rules, MVP was scheduled to face off against Crews for the United States Championship, but Crews was (kayfabe) medically uncleared to compete and MVP claimed victory via forfeit and crowned himself as the new US champion, although Crews continued to be officially listed as champion.[7] The following night on Raw, MVP and Lashley added Shelton Benjamin into their group as the duo helped Benjamin capture the 24/7 Championship from R-Truth, and the group was formally named The Hurt Business, after which, the trio were defeated in a six-man tag team match by Alexander, Ricochet and the returning Mustafa Ali.[8][9] On the August 3 episode of Raw, Benjamin dropped the championship to Akira Tozawa in a triple threat match, which also included Truth. Later on in the show, The Hurt Business invaded Raw Underground, an underground fight club hosted by Shane McMahon, and attacked all the competitors involved as well as the spectators while proclaiming that they had taken over Raw Underground.[10]
