History

The first building known as Saint Agnes was dedicated on May 30, 1890. Rev. Thomas J. Roche was assigned as the church's first pastor. The current building was dedicated on November 21, 1954 by Rev. George W. Ahr.

In its history Saint Agnes has had two schools. The first, Saint Agnes School, was built in 1924 and served students from one through sixth grades. Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity taught the students. The school eventually added seventh and eighth grades and closed its doors in 1968.[1] The second school associated with Saint Agnes was Mother Teresa Regional School, which opened in 2006. However, unlike its predecessor, Mother Teresa was a regional school. It too closed its doors in 2016.[2]

Structure

The church consists of the main building and a rectory, which was completed in 1924. To the south of the church on South Avenue is the building that housed the former Mother Theresa Regional School. Attached next to it is the Charles J Hesse Parish Center. The church's property also has a grotto on the site of the former Saint Agnes School.
