Melodi Grand Prix 2012

On 30 June 2011, NRK confirmed Norway's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012.[3] Melodi Grand Prix 2012 was the 50th edition of the Norwegian national final Melodi Grand Prix and selected Norway's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2012. The competition consisted of three semi-finals which took place regionally on 21, 28 January and 4 February 2012. The final took place on 11 February 2012 at the Oslo Spektrum in Oslo. All shows were hosted by Marte Stokstad and Per Sundnes.[4]

Competing entries

A submission period was opened by NRK until 2 September 2011. Songwriters of any nationality were allowed to submit entries, while NRK reserved the right to directly select a performer for the submitted songs. At the close of the deadline, a record-breaking number of 800 submissions were received.[5] Twenty-four songs were selected for the competition by a jury panel consisting of representatives of NRK, record companies and production companies.[6][7] The competing acts and songs were revealed between 27 October 2011 and 16 January 2012.
