Miss Universe Malaysia 1979

Miss Malaysia Universe 1979 is the 17th edition of the Miss Universe Malaysia pageant which was held at the Merlin Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on April 28, 1979 where the reigning winner Yasmin Yusoff of Kuala Lumpur crowned her successor Irene Wong from Pahang at the end of the event. Irene represented Malaysia at the Miss Universe 1979 pageant in Perth, Australia.[1]

21 contestants from various state in Malaysia were selected as finalists in a field of 35 semifinalists. The semifinal stage was done in Malacca on March 30, 1979.

The grand final event saw the contestants paraded in national costumes, evening dresses and swimsuits. There were several secondary titles on offer such as Miss Personality, Miss Amity and Miss Photogenic.

The contestants were judged base on poise, catwalk, hairstyle, overall appearance, overall style, legs, figures and facial beauty.
