Mauritius–Spain relations

Mauritius–Spain relations are the bilateral and diplomatic relations between these two countries. Mauritius does not have an embassy in Spain, but his embassy in Paris, France, is accredited to Spain[1] but it has consulates in Barcelona and Madrid.[2] Spain does not have an embassy in Mauritius but its embassy in Pretoria, South Africa, is accredited for this country, as well as its consulate in Cape Town, also in South Africa.[3]

Diplomatic relations

Spain established diplomatic relations with Mauricio on May 30 on 1979. The Spanish Embassy to Mauritius has residence in Pretoria (South Africa). The Embassy of Mauritius accredited in Spain is its Embassy in Paris.[4]

Spain has actively participated, through the Spanish Embassy in Pretoria, in the Political Dialogues held between the European Union and the Mauritian authorities.[4]

Economic relations

Since its independence in 1968, Mauricio has seen significant growth, going from being a low-income country to having one of the largest per capita income on the continent, with intermediate incomes and a diversified economy.[5]

Major sectors such as sugar (90% of crops and 25% of exports), fisheries or textiles weigh in the economy of Mauritius. However, Mauritius has oriented its economy towards services.[5]

Cooperation

Although Mauricio is not a priority or preferential country within the Master Plan of Spanish cooperation, Spain is present in the cooperation efforts through which the European Union carries out.[6]
