List of heads of the diplomatic missions of the Holy See

The following is a sortable list of the heads of the diplomatic mission of the Holy See. An apostolic nuncio (also known as a papal nuncio or simply as a nuncio) is an ecclesiastical diplomat, serving as an envoy or a permanent diplomatic representative of the Holy See to a state or to an international organization. A nuncio is appointed by and represents the Holy See, and is the head of the diplomatic mission, called an Apostolic Nunciature, which is the equivalent of an embassy. The Holy See is legally distinct from the Vatican City or the Catholic Church. A nuncio is usually an archbishop.

  1. The Holy See withdrew its Apostolic Internuncio, Edward Cassidy on 25 October 1971. Francesco Colasuonno soon replaced him as the first in a series of chargés d’affaires.[36]
  2. Even though other diplomatic missions are appointed to the United Kingdom, that of Holy See is appointed to Great Britain.[67][68][69]
  3. Permanent Representative of the Holy See to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO); Permanent Observer of the Holy See at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (ONUDI) and the United Nations Office in Vienna.
  4. The two UN agencies in Nairobi are UNEP and UN-Habitat.
  5. In addition to the FAO, this position includes the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP or, based on its name in French or Italian, PAM).
  6. This appointment includes that of Permanent Observer to the World Trade Organization.[166]
