Ganeshi Lal

Ganeshi Lal (born 1 March 1941) is an Indian politician and the incumbent Governor of Odisha.[2][3]

Early life

Prof. Ganeshi Lal was born in Sirsa, Haryana on 1 March 1941. He holds a degree in English Honours. He further went on to gain a post-graduate degree in Mathematics. He was brilliant in studies and stood First Class First in FA, BA and MA Class and was a Gold Medallist.

After completing his education, he joined academic profession and served as Professor in different Government Colleges in Haryana between 1964 and 1991.

Political career

Professor Ganeshi Lal bravely faced the atrocities during the national emergency and remained in jail in 1975–76. Resigning from his teaching job in 1990, he was first elected as a Member of Legislative Assembly in the year 1996 defeating the invincible Congress heavy-weight Lachman Dass. He served as a senior Cabinet Minister in the HVP-BJP collation government under Chief Minister Ch. Bansi Lal in Haryana holding plump portfolios including Labour & Employment, Cooperation, Food & Civil Supply and Excise & Prohibition. He is a former Secretary, Spokesperson, Vice-President and rose to occupy to coveted party position of President, Haryana BJP unit. He remained as BJP Rashtriya Prabhabi for the state of Jharkhand for three years. He has authored a celebrated book on Bhagvad Gita, 'Non-attached Attachment' published by PEN IN Books[4]. He also served as the Convenor of BJP-HJC coordination committee. He played pivotal role in the formation of first BJP government in Haryana with absolute majority in 2014 and was considered as a strong contender for the post of Chief Ministerialship. Before occupying the gubernatorial position in Odisha, he was National President of Disciplinary Committee of the Bhartiya Janta Party.
