History

The place was first called Hot Springs Valley, then Drake's Place and Drake's Hot Springs.[2] The name honors E.R. Drake who settled at the place in 1860s.[2] The name Drakesbad was bestowed when ownership transferred to the Sifford family who substituted -bad (German for "bath" or "spa") for the English.[2]

The Drake post office operated from 1901 to 1902.[2]

The Drakesbad Guest Ranch resort is located in Drakesbad. The original ranch on the location was built in the 1880s.
