Clinton, Georgia

Clinton is an unincorporated community in Jones County, Georgia, United States. The community is located along US 129/SR 11/SR 18/SR 22 near the southwest border of Gray.

History

Clinton was originally called DeWitt, and under the latter name was founded in 1808.[2] The present name is after DeWitt Clinton (1769–1828), seventh and ninth governor of New York.[2] The Georgia General Assembly incorporated the place as the "Town of Clinton" in 1816.[3] A post office called Clinton was established in 1821, and remained in operation until 1924.[4] The town's municipal charter was officially dissolved in 1995.[2]
