C. N. Ashwath Narayan

C. N. Ashwathnarayan (b 1968) is an Indian politician and the 8th Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka. He is also the Minister of Higher Education, Information Technology and Biotechnology, Science and Technology and Skill development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood in the Government of Karnataka. He is a Member of Karnataka Legislative Assembly representing BJP from Malleshwaram constituency,[1][2] Bangalore, Karnataka.[3]

The positions he held include Convener of Doctors Cell - Bharatiya Janata Party and Founder President of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore.[4] He was also the Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Party, Bangalore District, Senate Member of Bangalore University, Syndicate and Senate Member of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences Employees Association, Bangalore, and the Chairman of Committee for drafting statutes for A&B, C&D cadre of employees of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore.[4]
Ashwathnarayan has enabled introduction of Health Insurance Schemes, Pension Scheme for Widows, Handicaps and Senior Citizens, Day Care Centre for Senior Citizens, Seva Kendra's in each ward. Also Hasiru Santhe, Zero Garbage, Waste Recycle, Modernizing Old Establishments, Development of Parks, Gymnasiums and Aerobics Centers.

On 20 August 2019 he was inducted as the Cabinet Minister in Bharatiya Janata Party Government led by Chief minister B. S. Yeddyurappa[5]

Personal life

Ashwathnarayan is the youngest son of T.K. Narayanappa and V.L. Padmamma and was born on 2 February 1968. He is married to Shruthi, with whom he has a son and a daughter.

Medical career

After completing his schooling in Bangalore and Shivamogga, Ashwathnarayan achieved his MBBS degree from [[Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. Where he became He started Padmashree Charitable Trust and Shushrutha Group of Institution, which are running a group of educational Institutions, which offer various courses in Paramedic, Management, Science and technology and Ayurvedic Medical Science.

Political career

C. N. Ashwathnarayan entered mainstream politics in 2004 by joining the BJP and contested from Malleshwaram (Vidhan Sabha constituency) and lost the election against a sitting MLA M.R. Seetharam. In the year 2008, he again contested from the same constituency. He won the election to the state legislature with a huge margin against two times MLA, M.R. Seetharam.[6]

He was elevated to the level of Vice President of BJP, Bangalore District. The BJP candidate from Bangalore North constituency won by a large margin in the April 2009 general elections, and BJP candidates won in 6 of 7 wards in 2010 Municipal corporation elections.

The 'Dhobi Ghat' in Malleswhwaram has the privilege of being the first modernized dhobi ghat not only within the city but also in the state. This initiative by Ashwathnarayan supports the livelihood of 400 families and has now become a 'National Model'.[7]

The Anganwadi centers at Govt Schools in Malleshwaram are  developed on 'Montessori' model provide the best learning experience for kids, way better than the private preschool centers. A citizen-centric Complaint Redressal platform (Portal & APP) called 'Malleshwaram Sahaaya[8]' built for citizens to report their grievances and bring about coordination and transparency among various govt agencies.
