Before Eurovision

For 2009, a lengthy selection process was held by BNT, featuring several heats, quarter-finals and semi-finals between October 2008 and February 2009. For 2010, BNT will hold a completely different selection to select its entry, with the broadcaster internally selecting the artist who will take part in Oslo. A televised national final will be held to select the song, which will be chosen by public televoting and SMS voting.[1][2]

Artist selection

On 18 October 2010, BNT announced Miroslav Kostadinov (Miro) as the Bulgarian entrant at the Eurovision Song Contest 2010. Miro had previously taken part in the 2007 Bulgarian national final as one part of KariZma, coming second with "Fool for You".[3] The selection was based on the decision of participants of an opinion survey that featured 51 music industry experts, with Miro being selected after winning the survey with 10 votes.[4] Other artists that were highly considered included Poli Genova who received 7 votes and Nora Karaivanova with 3 votes. Other considered artists included Slavi Trifonov, 2006 entrant Maria Ilieva, Lili Ivanova, and 2007 entrants Elitsa Todorova with Stoyan Yankulov.[5]

Evrovizija 2010

The song that Miro would perform at the 2010 contest was selected through a national final. Songwriters were able to submit their entries until 15 January 2010.[5][6] The five competing songs (three sung in Bulgarian and two in English), varying in musical genres, were released during a presentation show on 5 February 2010, during which Miro launched the search for backing vocalists and dancers for the 2010 contest.[7][8]

The final took place on 28 February 2010 at the National Congress Centre in Sofia, hosted by Dragomir Draganov. The winning song, "Angel si ti", was determined by public televoting and SMS voting, receiving 48.05% of the total votes.[9][10]
