2020–21 Ukrainian First League

The 2020–21 Ukrainian First League is the 30th since its establishment. The league will be expanded from 16 to 18 teams this season according to the decision of the PFL Council of Leagues on the 5 June 2020.[1]

Summary

For the next from 2021–22 season, Ukrainian First League will expected to expand again to 20 teams next season as part of the league's expansion plan. The bottom two team from Ukrainian First League will battle relegation play-off to Ukrainian Second League. The top two teams of each group from Ukrainian Second League will gain promotion to Ukrainian First League next season. However, the third place team from Ukrainian Second League of each group will battle promomtion play-off to Ukrainian First League.

Teams

This season, Ukrainian First League will be expanded to 18 teams, which will include top two teams from the both groups of 2019–20 Ukrainian Second League, two relegation/promotion play-offs winners, and one team relegated from the 2019–20 Ukrainian Premier League. As of 13 August 2020, eleven teams from the previous season have confirmed its place in the league.

The following teams have been promoted from the 2019–20 Ukrainian Second League:

Relegated teams

  • None – Karpaty Lviv that placed 12th in the 2019–20 Ukrainian Premier League, were excluded from the league for repeated absence from scheduled games.[2] A possibility was declared at first that the club might be admitted to the First League nonetheless,[3] but later it was announced that Karpaty will be admitted the Second League instead.[4][5] About a month later on 14 August 2020, Tribuna.ua informed that Karpaty never applied for certification for the next season in first or second leagues.[6]
