North Dakota voted for the Republican nominee, incumbent President Calvin Coolidge of Massachusetts, over Nonpartisan League nominee, Senator Robert M. La Follette of Wisconsin and Democratic nominee, Ambassador John W. Davis of West Virginia. Coolidge ran with former Budget Director Charles G. Dawes of Illinois, while Davis ran with Governor Charles W. Bryan of Nebraska while La Follette ran with Senator Burton K. Wheeler of Montana.
Coolidge won North Dakota by a narrow margin of 2.51% of the vote.
With 45.17% of the popular vote, North Dakota would prove to be La Follette's second strongest state in the 1924 election in terms of popular vote percentage after Wisconsin.[1] This was one of only two states, the other being Wisconsin, in which La Follette won a majority of counties.[2]
