Get in
Toyama is a popular starting point for day expeditions to climb Tateyama. Return trip tickets can be purchased from Toyama Dentetsu station (next to JR Toyama), for about ¥5000. An early start is advised and so is checking the weather beforehand. The journey comprises about one hour by train, then a transfer to the Bijodaira cable car (funicular), followed by a 50-minute bus trip.

See
Check out the Murodo crater lake before beginning the ascent, which may be a challenging climb for the inexperienced. Of the triple-peaked Tateyama range, the most popular climb is the peak named Oyama, from which, on a clear day, it is possible to see Mt Fuji.
