Stores

The mall is currently anchored by Weis Markets. Former anchors at the mall include Hess's, which was replaced by The Bon-Ton (now closed); George's IGA, which was replaced by King's Supermarket which was later remodeled and renamed Weis Markets; and J.J. Newberry, which is currently a Sky Zone trampoline park. The mall is mostly one level, but has a small second floor towards the south end of the mall.

History

Westgate Mall began as an outdoor strip mall in 1965 (southern end), but expanded into an enclosed mall in 1971 to compete with indoor malls in Whitehall Township. It now has at least ten empty stores, but it is an inexpensive place for essentials. Competition with the new 1/2 million square foot "Airport Center Mall" (anchored Target & Sam's Club) only 2.5 miles away has nearly killed Westgate. The only anchor department store was Bon-Ton, which closed in 2018 when the chain liquidated.

Harold S. Campbell opened the mall in 1973. On November 9, 2011, the Westgate Mall started a year-round farmers market called The Market at Westgate that runs on Wednesdays. It started with 15 vendors. The farmers market was closed one year later on October 31, 2012. In addition, a renovation is planned for the mall, which currently has many vacancies.[1]

In August 2015, it was announced that Westgate Mall would undergo extensive renovations. Parts of this renovation included an updated facade, the addition of Sky Zone Trampoline Park, and relocating some of the current tenants.[3]

gollark: It turns out that it's actually a very hard problem to make it work somewhat sensibly even if people use negatives and stuff like "bad" too, so I just made a heuristic thing where it does `weight = 1 / weight` once per instance of not, un, bad and some stuff like that.
gollark: An example of the autobias algorithm working, when I have the bot pick between those options 1000 times.
gollark: What do you mean it definitely works if it completely kills the entire system?
gollark: I think that's a software encoder, yes.
gollark: Hey, maybe it's killing the GPU somehow if it has one.
