The original construction permit called for the station to transmit from a tower closer to Michigamme with 100 kW on 88.1 MHz. On October 26, 2007 a modification of the original construction permit was granted to move the station northwest of Marquette on 88.3 MHz with reduced power from a much higher tower. During final station construction the antenna height was reduced by 12 meters to avoid other antennas on the same tower.

The call letters WKPK were used for many years by WSRT 106.7 in Gaylord, Michigan.
