WBCP

WBCP (1580 AM) is a radio station that is currently silent. It is licensed to Urbana, Illinois and broadcasts to the Champaign, Illinois area. The 1580 frequency was established as a daytime only operation in 1948 as WKID. Call letters were later changed to WCCR in 1969, WJTX in 1984, and WBCP in 1990. The station is currently owned by P & C Enterprises, Inc. Despite being the only Black owned station East of the Mississippi River and its solid signal throughout the Champaign area, WBCP has the distinction of being the radio station with the lowest daytime power of any licensed AM station in the USA.[1] WBCP has expanding rapidly in the Gospel Music realm. With the release of The Lady Lynn Live Gospel Show (WBCP current Station Manager-Lynn White, Gospel Music has grown the station listener ship tremendously. The genre of Gospel is played weekly on The Gospel Review Monday-Friday with local Gospel Pastors, spinning Gospel Music. WBCP Radio has also a strong listener-ship in Old Skool Music R & B with DJ Smooth "T", Jazz-DJ-One, and Blues-DJ Mighty Dog. WBCP Radio was nominated for a Stellar Award in Small Market in 2016. WBCP host the synidicated Michael Baisden Show in the afternoons.
