History

It was founded in 1898 as a settlement serving the construction of Ochyorskaya (Очёрская) railway station of the Perm–Vyatka railway. In 1904, the station was renamed Voznesenskaya (Вознесенская), and in 1916—Vereshchagino (after the war artist Vasily Vereshchagin, who stopped here in 1904). It was granted town status in 1942.

Administrative and municipal status

Within the framework of administrative divisions, Vereshchagino serves as the administrative center of Vereshchaginsky District, to which it is directly subordinated.[1] As a municipal division, the town of Vereshchagino, together with ten rural localities, is incorporated within Vereshchaginsky Municipal District as Vereshchaginskoye Urban Settlement.[4]

Economy

Food industry, production of knitwear, manufacture of spare parts and reinforced concrete structures form the basis of the town's economy. The town is also a large railway traffic center.

gollark: For example, if you buy stock in "GTech Stores", you'd expect to get dividends if I sell anything. But nobody has actually designed a mechanism for company krist accounts, paying dividends automatically, calculating profit, accounting and all that.
gollark: I think a key issue is that there's not really any mechanism for accounting and paying out profit.
gollark: <@356209633313947648> Stock exchanges have been, well, started on before, never really finished.
gollark: It would be complex to do, but extremely cool.
