Velvary
Velvary (Czech pronunciation: [ˈvɛlvarɪ]) is a town in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 3,100 inhabitants. It is located 25 km northwest of Prague.

History
The town, first mentioned in 1282, was for centuries an important stop on the way from Prague to Saxony.
Sights
The centre of the town is historically significant and is protected by law as Urban monument zone. The major sights of the spacious King Vladislav Square include a Baroque plague column (1716–1719), a Baroque town hall (1717) and the Gothic St. Catherine church with murals from the 15th century. The Renaissance Prague Gate (1580) is the last preserved of three town gates. There is also a valuable Renaissance Saint George church (1613–1616) with a churchyard.
Sport
A local football club, TJ Slovan Velvary, plays in the Bohemian Football League (3rd tier of the Czech football league system).
