Vajira Abeywardena

Vajira Abeywardana (born September 2, 1960) is a Sri Lankan United National Party politician and a member of parliament for Galle District. He was the former cabinet Minister of Home Affairs. He lost his prestige and honour as a politician after involving the Avant Guard case and the central bank robbery alongside with the former Financial Minister Ravi Karunanayake and the former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. In August 2020, after the general election, he had to relinquish his seat in Galle Electoral District after the biggest defeat of the United National Party.[1]

Abeywardana also previously served as Minister of Public Administration, Management and Reforms in the UNP government led by Ranil Wickramasinghe in 2001.[2] Vajira Abeywardana was educated at Mahinda College, Galle and University of Moratuwa. He resides in Kappetipola Mawatha, Colombo.
