The modern city of Ukiha was established on March 20, 2005, from the merger of the former town of Ukiha (浮羽町, Ukiha-machi) absorbing the town of Yoshii (both from Ukiha District).
As of April 30, 2017, the city has an estimated population of 30,431,[2] and a population density of 260 persons per km². The total area is 117.55 km².
