Tim Kelly (American football)

Tim Kelly (born August 17, 1986), is an American football coach who is currently the offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans. Kelly played college football for the Eastern Illinois Panthers.[1]

Early life

A native of Chicago Heights, Illinois, Kelly starred at Marian Catholic High School,[2] where he is a member of the East Suburban Catholic Conference Hall of Fame.[3]

College career

Kelly played defensive tackle at Eastern Illinois Panthers, starting all 48 games in his collegiate career and serving as the team's captain in 2007. He was named to the Capital One Academic All-District V Team in 2006 and 2007.[4]

Coaching career

College coaching

Kelly spent the 2008-09 seasons at Illinois-Wesleyan, where he was the defensive graduate assistant. He served as the defensive coordinator, defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at Minnesota State Moorhead for the 2010 season. In 2011 Kelly served as a graduate assistant at Ball State. He also served as a graduate assistant at Penn State, under Head Coach Bill O’Brien in 2012 and 2013.[5]

NFL

Starting in 2014, Kelly spent three years as offensive quality control coach for head coach Bill O'Brien and the Houston Texans. He also assisted Mike Devlin with the offensive line in 2016. He served as the tight ends coach in 2017 and 2018.[6] On February 5, 2019, Kelly was named as the offensive coordinator of the Houston Texans.[5]

Personal life

Kelly's brother, Dennis, played college football at Purdue and is currently an offensive tackle for the Tennessee Titans.
