The Mariners signed Vieira as a free agent in 2010. The Mariners added him to their 40-man roster after the 2016 season.[2]

On November 16, 2017, Vieira was traded to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for international bonus pool money.[3]

Vieira was released on December 2, 2019, in order to allow him to pursue an opportunity in Japan.
