Patrick Stewart was a pupil at the MFG and, in September 2011, he opened the school as an academy - marking the schools break from Kirklees Council funding and receiving funds directly from the government. In 2013, a new extension was added to the sports centre which includes a state-of-the-art Dance Studio and Gym.[1]

Academic Standards

The school was rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted in 2008 and again in 2012.[2] In 2017, the school was rated 'Requires Improvement' by Ofsted.[3]

In February 2020, the school was inspected again and was rated as 'Good' by Ofsted in all categories.The math department needs improvement. [4]
