Premise
The series follows FBI director James Comey as he serves under the new president of the United States Donald Trump.

Production
It was announced in October 2019 that Billy Ray was to write and direct a miniseries produced by CBS Television Studios that would adapt James Comey's autobiography A Higher Loyalty, with Jeff Daniels playing Comey,[2] and Brendan Gleeson playing Donald Trump.[3] Michael Kelly, Jennifer Ehle,[4] Holly Hunter,[5] Steven Pasquale, Oona Chaplin,[6] Scoot McNairy, William Sadler and T. R. Knight[7] were amongst the additional castings also announced to star, with Peter Coyote cast as Robert Mueller.[8] Ray met with Comey multiple times over the course of a year to prepare the series. Filming began in Toronto in November 2019.[9][10][11][12] The series' budget was $40 million.[1]
In June 2020, the series was revealed to be named The Comey Rule. It will premiere on Showtime over two nights on September 27, 2020.[1][13]
