Academics

The school is a voluntary aided comprehensive school.

At St Augustine of Canterbury, they are committed to providing a quality curriculum that enhances the life chances of all our pupils, based on 3 principals: • Equality of opportunity • Breadth and depth • Ambition and aspiration

During the academic year 19/20, St Augustine’s is undergoing a full curriculum review. The review will focus on the subjects on offer and the allocated time in both KS3 and KS4.

The School Day

The school day starts at 0845 and ends at 1500. During the school day, pupils meet in registration groups for a total of 25 minutes. There are 5 one hour lessons a day taught. Lunch time lasts for 30 minutes and there is a 20-minute mid-morning break.

Ofsted

Since the previous inspection, there has been considerable change at the school. The newly formed governing body has supported improvement in areas effectively. The school is making progress. The local authority has provided significant support to improve the school’s work with vulnerable pupils. This is beginning to have a positive impact.

Dinner and break

The school has a canteen which allows pupils to purchase a meal from a variety of meal choices. Pupils may also bring a packed lunch if wanted. Due to the size of the canteen pupils are encouraged to eat and then move on, however in the early 2000s expansion work took place.
