Synopsis

The narrative continues from Marvel's Spider-Man and its downloadable content The City That Never Sleeps, during which Miles Morales is bitten by a genetically-enhanced spider and gains powers similar to Peter Parker's. A year after the first game and its DLC, Miles has fully integrated himself into the black and red suit as an experienced Spider-Man while defending New York from a gang war between an energy corporation and a high-tech criminal army. Miles’s new home in Harlem is at the heart of the battle. Parker tells Miles that he has to be like his late father and walk on the path to becoming a hero for the city of New York.[1][2]

Development

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is being developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 5.[3][4] Sony Vice President Simon Rutter told The Telegraph that the game was "an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game".[5] However, Insomniac later called the project a stand-alone game, stating that it is "the next adventure in the Marvel's Spider-Man universe".[6] It is smaller in size and scope than Spider-Man, and has been compared to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, a game that was smaller in size and scope than a mainline Uncharted title.[5][6][7] The game will feature "a new story, with new set-pieces, fresh villains, and unique quests",[2] and will take advantage of the PlayStation 5's DualSense controller, Tempest Engine and dedicated ray tracing hardware to support haptic feedback, 3D spatial audio and real-time ray tracing effects, enhancing the player immersion experience.[8] With the increased processing power and inclusion of a custom solid state drive storage, the game will feature near instantaneous load times and a wide variety of enemies, visual effects, and objects within gameplay scenes.[9] Insomniac Games also confirmed that Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales will feature an optional "performance mode" that will allow players to run the game at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second.[10]

Release

The game was announced on June 11, 2020 at the PlayStation 5 reveal event. It is due to be released in Q4 2020 alongside the release of the PlayStation 5.[3][11] An issue of the Game Informer magazine reported that the game will also release alongside a remastered version of Marvel's Spider-Man though this has yet to be confirmed by Sony or Insomniac Games directly.[12]
