South Branch Township is a civil township of Wexford County of the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township population was 330. It is considered to be part of the Northern Michigan subregion.

Communities
Hoxeyville is a small unincorporated community in the southeast corner of the township at 44°11′38″N 85°42′52″W. The FIPS place code is 39600 and the elevation is 1,132 feet (345 m) above sea level.
M-55 (Caberfae Highway) traverses the township east–west and M-37 crosses north–south along the west side. The city of Cadillac is about 15 miles (24 km) to the east along M-55.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.1 square miles (93.6 km2), of which 36.1 square miles (93.5 km2) is land and 0.04 square mile (0.1 km2) (0.06%) is water.
Demographics
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 330 people, 148 households, and 92 families residing in the township. The population density was 9.1 per square mile (3.5/km2). There were 429 housing units at an average density of 11.9 per square mile (4.6/km2). The racial makeup of the township was 98.18% White, 0.30% from other races, and 1.52% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.52% of the population.
There were 148 households, out of which 22.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.7% were married couples living together, 6.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.8% were non-families. 32.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.23 and the average family size was 2.82.
In the township the population was spread out, with 21.5% under the age of 18, 4.8% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 26.1% from 45 to 64, and 22.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females, there were 108.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 108.9 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $31,667, and the median income for a family was $40,536. Males had a median income of $31,979 versus $19,375 for females. The per capita income for the township was $16,620. About 6.9% of families and 9.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 13.0% of those under age 18 and 1.3% of those age 65 or over.
