Satan's Kingdom has been noted for its unusual place name.[2] It was named Satan's Kingdom because when settlers came into the area in the 1670s during King Philip's War, there were reportedly Native American villagers there who defended their land. It was attacked numerous times along with Deerfield. It was also known for its rough terrain and wildlife, preventing settler-colonialists from settling its potentially dangerous grounds.
