Purnea Airport

Purnea Airport (IATA: PUI, ICAO: VEPU) is located near Purnia in the state of Bihar, India. This is the base of Indian Air Force. This airport was built for supplies to Indian Army in Sino-Indian War.

Airlines and destinations

Spirit Air Private Limited, in association with Bangalore-based Door to Door Services Limited (DTDS), started[1] non-scheduled flight services on Patna-Purnea and Purnea-Calcutta routes, flying twice a week to Kolkata and Patna. The flight takes 50 minutes to fly from Purnea to Patna.[2]

Recent Development

It has been selected in UDAN scheme of the Government of India. Airport Authority of India has given official nod for flight operations. So, the Government of Bihar has acquired 50 acres land for the construction of a passenger terminal, VVIP lounge, cargo terminal and 3 acres for road connectivity. Runway is being expanded to facilitate landing of multiple flights. It will benefit the people of Kosi region, especially Saharsa, Supaul, Madhepura, Purnia, Katihar, Araria and Kishanganj
